Face your fear and conquer it (Part 2)

It's been long enough now that fear has ruled your life. It is time to rid yourself of it. For good.

Yes, you can! It's something you're learning. The only thing left is for you to get up, grab your sword, and cut off its ugly head. As David cut off Goliath's head.

DAVID'S 3rd SECRET - HE WAITED ON GOD FOR DIRECTION

Psalm 27.11-14 (NKJV)

11Teach me Your way, O Lord,

And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.

13I would have lost heart, unless I had believed

That I would see the goodness of the Lord

In the land of the living.

14Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage,

And He shall strengthen your heart;

Wait, I say, on the Lord!

David waited on God, expecting to meet Him.  God never failed him, and every time, David was strengthened, mentally and emotionally (verse 14). 

In God's presence, he heard God's instructions. Although God didn't prevent terrible things from happening, He never left David alone. David succeeded despite all challenges because he followed God's guidance. 

KEY #3 - EXCHANGE FEAR FOR FAITH IN PRAYER AND CONQUER YOUR ENEMY

Isaiah 55.8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.  9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

FEAR ALWAYS HAS A POINT OF ENTRY

Traumatic experiences cause fear in many people. The devil uses every opportunity to scare you. Eventually, his lies become strongholds to keep you captive.

In Part 1, I told you about the dark room in my life that led to fear. Can you recall it?  

After almost drowning as a child, my mom had a fear of water... a friend fears spiders because he was bitten by one ... another fears elevators because they got stuck in one, and so on.

HERE ARE THE PRACTICAL STEPS TO FOLLOW

• Spend time in God's presence, as David did. It's there that God's hand awaits to rescue you.  Pray over those questions and answers you wrote down earlier (Part 1). 

• Allow Holy Spirit to remind you of traumatic events. It might be painful, but it's worth it all.

• Pray that God will heal your heart and your traumatized memories. He'll do it!

• Tackle that spirit of fear with authority and command it to leave. Remember, your place is right next to Jesus in heavenly places, far from your enemies, with the devil and his demons of fear beneath your feet.

• Rejoice in God's goodness. Sing praises whenever fear threatens. Don't let fear defeat you! Make praise your battle cry!

• Keep renewing your mind with the Truth of God's Word (Key #4).

DAVID'S 4th SECRET - HE LOVED AND HONOURED GOD'S WORD

Right through the book of Psalms, we find that David was in love with the Word of God!

Psalms 119.103-107

How sweet are Your words to my taste, 

sweeter than honey to my mouth. Through Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I have sworn and confirmed that I will keep Your righteous judgments. 

I am afflicted very much; revive me, O Lord, according to Your word.

When the truth of God's Word penetrates one's heart, all darkness has to leave!

Psalm 119.130

The entrance of Your words gives light;

It gives understanding to the simple.

KEY #4 - MEDITATE ON THE BIBLE, READ IT, STUDY IT, AND STUDY IT AGAIN

Become strong in God's Word because it is our weapon of attack and defence. 

Sword your way through fear's attacks! Put an end to the enemy's attempts to intimidate you and don't give it any more time or space.

Your victory depends on your ability to believe and apply the principles in God's Word. Without knowing your weapons, you can't use them effectively. 

Therefore, renew your mind, get rid of lies, and fill your heart and mind with the Truth. 

Bring your inner self in line with the Word and the Will of God.

Romans 12.2 (NKJV)

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Encourage yourself and speak from a place of faith, not fear. 

Talk to your heart as David did. In the midst of adversity, he told his soul not to look down, but to praise God instead.

LET'S WRAP UP

A while ago you felt like you've reached the end of the line in the prison of fear with no chance for parole! 

You felt like giving up, and you were afraid that fear would be your companion until the end of your days.

Then you discovered these articles that challenged you to overcome your fear. 

I guess you were hoping for a quick fix. Everybody does. 

A quick fix does not exist. The only way to defeat your enemy is to pick up your weapons!

I have shared with you how David dealt with fear and I gave you 4 keys to apply:

1) Put fear in the right perspective

2) Know the truth that will set your free

3) Exchange fear for faith in prayer and conquer your enemy

4) Meditate on the Bible, read it, study it, and study it again!
